There are objective rules of war, violation of which is a war crime. One cannot credibly condemn things like terrorism while endorsing war crimes, such as bombing of German or Japanese civilians committed by uniformed soldiers on our side.

That has been my position as well. But some here are incapable of distinguishing between that concept and leftist pacifism. In their minds, any criticism is anti-American.

What you wrote is so true.

I'm neither a pacifist nor a leftist nor anti-American; in fact, I spend time arguing with liberal friends and family. They say, "Don't spend money on national security; spend it on human needs" and I respond "National Security IS a human need, right up there with food, clothing, shelter, education, and medical care."

But there is a difference between honest soldiering and war crime. There is a difference between a just act of war, and an atrocity. This is something codified in law, honored in American tradition, and inescapable in the conscience of every decent fighting man.
