The point I believe the original poster is trying to make is that we should be sure to appoint someone conservative to the court to replace O'Conner as Roberts was really a replacement for O'Conner (a moderate) but circumstances made it more expedient for him to replace Rhenquist (a conservative).
Technically you are right, but in the grand scheme of things Roberts was really a replacement for O'Conner and probably wouldn't have had any problem getting confirmed.

Yep words mean things and if the poster meant something else he should have said so or come back and revised his assertion. He's spouted that numerous times and hasn't changed it after having it pointed out to him so I'm not sure what he meant.
