Don't know why religion matters......

As long as the nominee believes in original intent of the constitution, I could care less what his/her religion is.

From everything I see, Judge Alito is a SUPERB conservative.

He would be the FIFTH Catholic of the nine on Scotus.

So WHY isn't Edward Kennedy jumping for joy on this news? Oh I forgot WHAT sort of Catholic Eddie is ....

Well, there are limits--wouldn't want a scientologist, for instance. But conservative Catholic is not a liberation theologian (communist). Large denominations have their camps; Alito apparently fully intersects with the conservative Republican camp.

I had to go over to DU and see what the DUmmies are saying.

It appears that if Alito is confirmed, abandoned babies are going to litter the ground, people are going to go into a psychotic funk and eventually those abandoned babies will be the cannon fodder of the Rights lust for world power at the hands of Halliburton and the Bush's.

And the back alley abortions will kill many women which really won't matter because they will have no rights.

You just can't make this stuff up.

Agree on Scientologists (or even atheists and islamists).

Judge Alito seems to be a SOLID conservative. Dems immediate opposition to him is proof positive that he is a proven conservative, even more so than Roberts. Although, Judge Roberts was such a superb pick because of his credentials.

"I know from the inside that we have a quote from kennedy and specter saying good things about him.

Specter has to play ball or sit on the bench. Exactly what did Kennedy say? Alito's lookin' good.

In most cases, it's just inappropriate.

You said Laura Bush had no business speaking on public policy. Now you say "in most cases".

Now you have changed your tune and are allowing her some leeway in speaking, eh? Wow...are you ever generous. LOL.

Contrary to what you stated, the President asking his wife's advice is far different from Carter asking little Amy. Laura Bush is no child.

Laura Bush helped work her husband into the WH. She is an intelligent woman who knows a lot about politics and the issues. I have no doubt that her advice on many occasions aided the success of the President on the way up.She knows the President better than anyone else. I would hope she would be consulted.

Don't worry. She will never be an "activist". Luckily we have a classy first lady.

She certainly has "business" speaking out. In fact, she is in demand and currently speaking all over the country in support of her husband's policies.

"...he is a proven conservative, even more so than Roberts"

How very true. On a few issues, Roberts consterns my concerns that the balance will be the same on those few issues.

If you want to see mass hair on fire over this nomination - go check out DU. LOL They range from hating their demo reps to wanting war to sad resignation that their party is nearing the bottom of the hill. Use lye soap with your shower afterward.

You said Laura Bush had no business speaking on public policy. Now you say "in most cases".

Not changing my tune at all. The spouse of a president or any other relation has no business (which means inappropriate) speaking on public policy.

Family members generally aren't trained politicians and therefore are prone to put their foot in their mouth when it comes time to answer questions from the press.

Laura Bush showed this as she indicated that there was a possibility that those opposed to Miers were doing so for sexist reasons.

A presidential spouse speaking on public policy is always inappropriate - it's just that sometimes it's not that big of a deal. If the CEO of a public company sent his wife out to do his work then he'd be replaced real quick.

I know that Laura Bush isn't the first to do it, but that doesn't make it right.

That's absolutely correct.

For I am speaking in defense of appointing people qualified based upon experience and track record, not on their sex.

So let me get this straight, you support affirmative action? Because that's what she's supporting by saying that there should be a quota of women on the SC.

Split hairs drained, her misogyny remark was either condescending or paranoid. She's still a lady, though, even if she were not the First.

LOL. The democrat whacko I have the displeasure of coming across seems rather defeated today. She hoped for Alito's quick nomination and the overturning of Roe v Wade. That apparently is the only thing conservatives have to run on and this will lead to the destruction of the radical right wing and the election of a moderate in 2008.

Oh, how I love this.

You know that they know it's all over when they are looking at the bright side to the end of RVW.

Ahhhhh....here's a quote from a lefty blog mentioning Freepers. Looks like they are plenty PO'd

Enjoy: from www.bigbrassblog.com

The Chimp bowed down at the altar of Dobson, Bauer, Schlafly, and the rest of the AmTaliban to save his "base" of the wild-eyed Freeper set, nominating Samuel Alito. I'd someone will ask an obvious question -- how on earth did Harriet Miers rate ahead of Sammy when the Chimperor was looking down the short list? We know the answer, but I want to see the White House explain that one away.
