Southern Baptists believe that drinking alcohol is a sin.
Therefore, they believe that anything associated with the consumption of alcohol is sinful. They did not want to be party to distributing containers of water with the logo of a beer company on them, therefore tacitly endorsing the main product of the company: alcohol.
The SBC did not want to be party to giving the Anheiser Busch corporation free advertising.
As long as no one was denied water, I have no problem with it, and cannot fathom why anyone else would.

Southern Baptists must receive the water/food/clothing/etc. in Jesus' name before giving it to someone else. When Baptists accept donations to distribute, they must be sure those who donate know about Christ, too. -- Bobby Welch, president of the Southern Baptist Convention
I can see how having to receive the water with the alcohol mfg logo on it could cause a dilemma for the SBs. I find it interesting also that they are called to witness to the distributer as well as the recipient.

It would appear from this position (and I don't doubt you're reporting it accurately), that the SBC is engaged in hating the sinner as well as the sin. I can accept hating the latter. It's the appearance of hating the former I have a problem with, particularly when that hate might ...
I said "might."
... interfere with helping the needy.
