New Delhi, Oct 30. (PTI): Delhi Police today said a single outfit could have been behind the serial bomb blasts here and the 'Inquilab' group which has claimed responsibility for the explosions was connected to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

The Police also scaled down the number of casualties saying 59 people had been killed and 210 injured. Earlier, police had said 61 people were dead and 188 injured in the Saturday's blasts.

"By looking into the timing and process of operation, it seems that the blasts have been trigerred by a single group," Karnal Singh, Joint Commissioner of the Special Cell investigating last evening's blasts, told reporters here.

He said an electronic timer device was used to trigger the blast in a bus in Govindpuri but nothing could be said with certainty what caused the explosions in Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar.

About the progress in investigation, Singh said, "it is premature to say anything now" and added that police were awaiting forensic reports about the blasts.

He said while no organisation had claimed responsibility in Delhi, the little-known 'Inquilab' group, which said in Srinagar that it caused the blasts, was connected to the LeT.

"It is an old organisation formed in 1996. It was not active and we are verifying the claim," the JCP said.

Singh said it was premature to say whether the blasts were connected to the sentencing in the Red Fort attack case.

Asked whether police had inputs about possible terror strikes, he replied in the negative.

Police were conducting searches in hotels and guesthouses to identify suspicious persons, Singh said.

Reward offered for clues

According to an Associated Press report police said they were looking for a man in his 20s who refused to buy a ticket on a bus and got off in the Govindpuri neighborhood, leaving behind a large black bag.

When some of the 40 passengers raised an alarm, the driver and bus conductor examined it and threw it out just as the blast occurred, injuring them both.

Police also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh or $2,200, for clues to trace the bombers. Several states across the country also went on high alert.

Asked who was responsible for the attacks, Singh would only say "there are several clues."

The Indian government faces opposition from dozens of militant groups - particularly Kashmiri separatists, some of whom also oppose the peace process between Pakistan and India.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh has summoned the an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss the attack.

Surely not the TROP -- it must have been The Religion of Murder.
