If they considered it at all that means they are NOT placing the prime importance on their own Constitutionally created laws but allowing foreign cultural "feelings" to dictate policy. This is a recipe for self-destruction.

Perhaps you misunderstand . Under the Civil Arbitration Act 1992 , civil decisions like divorce payments or law suits or simple grievances ,only if both parties agreed , they could have Jewish , Catholic and other religious laws applied to find a settlement . A court would then enforce the settlement only if that settlement was not in conflict with the laws of the land. Canadian law .

Muslims asked for the same, and were turned down .
