Three years. The prosecutors tried to cover everything Slobo did in Croatia, Bosnia & Kosovo. As a result he is charged with 66 separate counts of various war crimes instead of trying him for just a few representative crimes for each of his wars. Added to stoppages for Slobo's frequent "illnesses" and you get a trial this long.
The lesson has been applied in Iraq where they are not trying Saddam for all his crimes--just a representative sample that will still give him the sentence he deserves.
