Bad Blood Exists Between White House, CIA
Yahoo ^ | 10/29/05 | AP

Washington (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff is learning one Washington lesson the hard way: Don't do battle with people who run covert operations for a living. The bad blood between the White House and CIA has been known for some time. But the 22-page indictment Friday of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby displays - in black and white - just how nasty relations had become between senior White House officials and the nation's spy chiefs.

[snip]

...former CIA official Lee Strickland, who was responsible for all disclosure activities at the CIA as chief of its information review group, said he can't recall a time in his 30 years at the agency when there was so much tension with the White House.

He said the situation highlights problems with the politicization of intelligence. "You want to keep the politics separate from the intelligence," he said.

This is a direct result of Pres. Bush's behaving like an imbecile and refusing to fire all clinton political appointments, in all the cabinet offices and executive agencies, replacing them with his own loyal supporters

Amazing how even this gets turned into an excuse for a Bush bash.

I sharply disagree. I think one of GWB weakness is his willingness to placate his political nemesis rather than see the real reality. The real reality is that after 9/11 GWB should've cleaned out the CIA as well as the FBI and anyone else who did not get on board with this administration.

Veronica Valerie Plame is totally out of the guy in the pic's league.

Some people apparently don't even know when they should be embarrassed.

Actually, she's already married to one of "those people", so I'd say he probably has a chance.

I remember the protectors of that kidnapper in San Diego coming on here AFTER he was convicted. But, are there really VP protectors here also?

"Poor little Victim Valerie. On the cover of Vanity Fair with her oily husband (whom she personally recommended for that phony assignment that has since brought him fame and fortune). Gimme a break."

Being on the cover of Vanity Fair is no trade off for losing her career...apparently a career she loved. It cracks me up that Plame suggesting her husband for that mission is some sort of indictment. It's not as if it was a big cushy job. Wilson apparently did it for free. And a few weeks in Africa is hardly a trip to Hawaii.

The woman was apparently so dedicated to finding WMD that she opted for covert status which put her life in jeopardy every day that she served overseas. Do you really think she did not want to find the weapons connection to Iraq if they existed?

Has anyone here ever considered that there's an innocent and logical explanation for how Wilson was chosen? The subject came up, Plame said that her husband had diplomatic experience in both Iraq and Africa and still had connections and friends there...he was qualified and available to go.

It's not much different than me suggesting a friend or relative for a particular job if I know they have expertise in that area. All of this screeching about cronyism is especially amusing considering Mike Brown holding a $148,000 per year job as FEMA director.

Let's find out who sent Wilson, why he was sent and why he wasn't required to sign a confidentiality agreement thus preventing him from going to the press to complain about the administration ginning up the WMD evidence for war. That's the key. Follow that person up the chain. Libby worked for Marc Rich? Is this true? Marc Rich supposedly has ties to Soros? Is this true? The same people keep coming up in these topics. This isn't about politics it's about money and corruption. Thursday Marc Rich's company was named on the Oil For Food report for brokering oil deals for the program. Bush has busted up the largest cash cow for several world leaders and big shots. That's what this is all about. I sense something very elusive in all this. Peel off the politics, socialist, liberal, conservative and you start to see things clearer. The politics is used as a cover and used as a tool.

"Don't do battle with people who run covert operations for a living."

Every once in awhile, the AP stumbles on the truth. But the CIA is supposed to work for the Administration, and not against it. If they can't do that, maybe they should be removed and make their living giving security advice to corporations.

"They should have left the second or third week of September 2001 along with Tenet."

And the CIA should have been moved aside, and replaced with an OSS-type organization that was competent and willing to fight our enemies.

When is the media going to pick up on the fact that the CIA is flat incompetent. Putting its politics aside, it is flat incompetent. If the media wasn't so busy using the CIA to beat Bush over the head, it might be able to figure this out.

Occam's razor says that not only is she not a victim, but is likely the prime mover of the whole affair, using her dumbass husband like the fool he is.

I don't really think he is a VP supporter. He just seems like your run of the mill Libertarian anti-Bush guy. But I could be mistaken!

BTW, it is common courtesy to ping someone when you make reference to them or their posts.
