G Wimp Bush must hire a woman. His wife told him to. Or was it Sandra or maybe the DemocRATS.

Hey GW we elected you and got you into office while you promised pro-life judges like Thomass. Then you give us Miers and Robberts both in the mold of Sancra and Breyer who both turned out horribly wrong. But then to what do you expect when you nominate an unknown? Wake up man. Be a man. Nominate the Best Candidate another Bork or Thomass. Nominate someone we know will be prolife anti-activist. Not some idiot that will use foreign law or see some right to privacy in the constitution that allows Homosexuality or fag/lessie marriage when Fags were hung when the document was written.

That is not PC but then to why be PC. That is what is destroying America. Gays are flat out wrong and should all be jailed. We should not be afraid to say so.

For those itching for a fight, better do something about McCain first. His gang of 14 derailed it last time and I expect they will do so again.

Yes Savage was key but, then again, there was Kristol, Frum, Brooks and Krauthammer. I am sure I left many out but these were the earliest and fiercest.

What doomed Miers?

This was compounded when her visits to Republican senators went so badly that further sessions had to be suspended.

Miers doomed Miers!

What doomed Miers?

She was just a quota. Conservatives don't believe in quotas.

What doomed Miers?

For me, two things - minimal constitutional/appellate law background and not a conservative.

Background. Ms. Miers professional career centered around commercial litigation and contract law - two areas where constitutional interpretation have little play. Had Ms. Miers ever professionally dealt with criminal constitutional law issues, capital punishment, federalism issues, religion-in-public life issues, role of international law ... A Westlaw search failed to turn up any significant appellate cases which Ms. Miers handled.

Not a Conservative. While I believed that President Bush thought Ms. Miers is a conservative and while I believe that she is personally opposed to abortion, there is nothing else in her background to suggest that she is a conservative. The State Bar of Texas is controlled by liberals and has been so as long as I have been practicing law. As president, she embraced liberal ideas such as quotas and IOLTA, and stacked the criminal law review commissions with "soft on crime" people. My conclusion that Ms. Miers was not a conservative was not based on any DC punidit, but on my experiences of her in Texas.

"And it has been a fairly long one so far with having voted in 20 general election cycles."

How old are you? 100?

"there was Kristol, Frum, Brooks and Krauthammer."

I haven't read what Brooks had to say about all this, but aren't these the nefarious neoconservative guys who are supposed to be liberals in sheeps clothing? If they are neocons, they are the right side of the judicial activism issue, one of the most important ones for conservatives.

It looks like tories/RINOs are the problem with the GOP.

Brooks was made at her for writing in the passive voice and not writing crystal, clear prose like he, Rich, Krauthammer, Frum et al.

Put McCain on the spot. It's very easy for the Wobbly Seven to say no, until they are faced with voting down a conservative nominee in public. In which case it's only easy for Snowe, Collins, and Chafee.

Yes they did a "back room" deal that kept the leadership from a floor fight.

It is time to end the back room deals and make them (the 7 Republicans) go on the Congressional Record with their votes.

The wishy/washy "moderates" have held the gun to the parties head for way too long. Don't cha think?

W should know by now, it's not who the senators want, it's who the core wants. And that's Janice! If she doesn't get the nod, W will have to explain why not?

Your tag line including 'gang of 14' IMO should be 'gang of 7'.

The McCain and Linsey gang is 7 strong and independent, and have their own leaders, McCain and Linsey. They have accomplished a coup by permitting the 'filibuster'.
The 7 on the Democrat side are 'surrogates' and the are not a gang. In that their leader is their caucus.

Referring to a gang of 14 dilutes the complicity of the 7.

He's on our side. He's smart and one of the best in the business. Almost as effective as Coulter or Buchanan.

"if Hillary is on the ticket."

Shrillary on the ticket eh,,,?

YOU KNOW.....the US is not ready for a head bobbing ashtray hurling cankled witch ....

And if there are any deaths in US from bird flu then shrillary is toast.

As we can thank her for the federal vaccine purchasing program "for the children" that drove US makers of vaccines out of business....leaving millions of US citizens at risk.

Right. This was a terrible pick, no matter how it's spun.

No one sunk Miers but herself.

After his session with Miers, Sen. John Thune, R-S.D.,... said he had even more concerns than before the meeting."

"Sen Arlen Specter, R-Pa.,...complain(ed) that Miers' responses to their questionnaire were "insufficient" and "insulting."

"The talk among our colleagues was, `Is this the best choice?' We just were not comfortable," said Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss."

"Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H., concluded: "I don't know of anyone who felt more (favorably) about her nomination after meeting with her."
