Thank you - good analysis. Unfortunately, "whole language" instruction creates another group of students who can't read simply because they weren't taught - and it's more profitable to "diagnose" them as "dyslexic" than to admit that there's a simple, time-tested method to teach the vast majority of people to read successfully.
