More and more, I do appreciate having NH as a safety valve; Exit 1, Seabrook/Kingston last exit before tolls.....

I sure bet you are!  They still smoke in the mall and restaurants across the border in Canada, but I never go there.  That's about as close as I can get to a smoking restaurant and bar.  Oh well..........

I am saving a lot of money by not going out, but I sure miss it.

You'll save even more if you quit smoking and won't stink like stale smoke. I quit about five years ago. I don't mind the fumes straight off the end of the cigarette, but stale smoke is the pits. I can't believe I smelled like that for years..

I don't stink from stale smoke, I will have you know.  I practice great hygiene!  If anyone stinks from anything, it's because they haven't bathed in awhile.  You can speak for yourself.

I'm happy you quit but there are many of us who actually enjoy smoking.

And I roll my own for the past 4 years and not paying all those taxes into the state coffers has tickled me to no end.

I enjoyed the smoking also, but it finally caught up with me. I quit before it got really serious.

It's not just the tourism. What about this Chicago blues scene I hear so much about? Don't most of these guys smoke? And moreover, don't most of their patrons. Sure smoking is bad for a person, but so is a life without a proper diet, and most americans can't afford or even find a proper diet. With all of the preservatives, and chemicals in our food these days, it seems unfair to dump it all on smoking anyways.

It's always the devil we don't know. Tumors are caused by a random mutation of cells, or something like a scrambled set of chemical instructions in the messenger ribonucleic acid. Maybe it's the cars we drive, or the preservatives, or the tar in pot. We don't really know. For them to say without equivocation that cigarettes are universally carcinogenic is to ignore an entire universe of possibilities, including the city of chicago's air. I think more smokers die of emphysema than cancer. Even that is subject to some doubt, as to its origins. See, diseases exist for more than one reason, and its scientifically ignorant to say that one thing is entirely responsible. I am not pro-tobacco company, I just prefer to see the more scientic side of the medical issue, which is one of there being more than one possibility.

Well, way to much government intervention in our lives today.  And the smoking bans are choking the nation's economy.

The lawmakers have infringed upon private property owners and forced a smoking ban on them.  This should have been left up to the owner and his patrons and not the government.

We are all responsible adults, or should be, and it should be our decision to smoke or not to smoke.  Cigarettes are still a legal commodity.

New York City banned smoking in restaurants and bars, and it hasn't hurt business. They should do it here in PA. Whenever I go to NYC, I enjoy not having my hair and clothes stink from cigarettes in restaurants.

I don't know who told you the smoking ban hasn't hurt businesses in NYC, but you are sadly wrong.

And instead of choosing for yourself the best place for you to go, you would rather have the heavy fist of the law help you out there, right?  And to hell with the rest of us.  As long as you are happy in your little world, the rest of us has to suffer.  I don't think I like the way you think.

You say you wish they would force a smoking ban in PA.  Well, I say I wish they would force a total ban on anti-smokers such as yourself and be done with it.  Cigarettes are still a legal commodity you know.

Conservatives are supposed to be for rights.  Are you sure you belong to the right forum Doc?

Instead of wasting your time defending smoking, try to quit. You'll be happier and healthier, and the people around you won't have to smell your hair, clothes, and house.

I don't like your attitude.

I have smoked since I was 16 years old.  My whole family smoked/smokes.  My friends smoke.  If I quit, I would be the "odd man out."  You enjoy your life and I will enjoy mine.

It's none of your business what I do with legal commodities.  Plus, try practicing a little personal hygiene.  It really works holding down physical stink.  You know it?

If you only bath once a week, you are going to stink.  Try bathing a little bit more.
