Lewis Libby. D'oh. 8)
Welcome to the next phase of American politics.
I'm more concerned about the DeLay prosecution than I am about Libby. The DeLay prosecution is purely partisan, while I suspect that Fitzgerald is less partisan and more ego driven.
DeLay claims political persecution

Indicted U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, has lashed out in another letter to constituents branding his prosecution the "politics of personal destruction."
He said he has come under attack because he's been a strong advocate of conservative causes, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.
This is the second letter DeLay has sent to supporters since he was indicted on election law violations last month. DeLay has repeatedly said he is a victim of political persecution by District Attorney Ronnie Earle, a Democrat.
"Because of their decade of defeat, Democrats have now dropped to the least common denominator -- the politics of personal destruction," DeLay said, using the same defense mounted by former President Clinton during his impeachment.
DeLay said the prosecution against him is part of a larger pattern of "liberals" using the criminal justice system against conservatives.
through out history, a defeated enemy fights it's most desperate and costly battle at the end of the war. we have arrived there, and must engage them. they are defeated, and they are throwing every deperate move they can at us. we will persevere!!! continue to hold your head high, and do not deny who and what you are, as the enemy must do................it is just a matter of time now
Ain't it the truth. Republicans fought under the rules and guidelines of our system of government for over 50 years to regain control of the Congress. The democrats only fought for a decade, and have now given up using our system of government to regain control, instead, abusing the legal and judicial system to take by force what the majority of voters refuse to give them back. This is DEFINITELY the next phase of American politics, and the sooner ALL conservatives get used to that and fight it, the better. The liberals will not win doing this either. The American people are too smart for that. At least a majority of them are.
Yeah funny how now the same people who during the clinton mafia didn't think there was any legitimacy to "lying to a Grand Jury" charges, now suddenly think it's the worst thing on the planet. It's like I've said for years. Liberals are addicted to situational ethics. This is just another example of that.
I aggree 100%. DeLay is the BIG fight conservatives need to be getting on board with now. DeLay is being rail roaded big time, and most conservatives do not fully understand just how critical he is to making sure the conservative agenda is brought to fruition with votes on the House bloor. Blunt, while a nice guy and conservative is NO Tom DeLay. The sooner DeLay is Majority Leader again, the sooner liberals will be in more trouble.
AWESOME! I hadn't seen that. Thanks! DeLay is definitely the train that ALL conservatives need to climb on board and ride him all the way to crushing the liberal attempt to criminalize conservatism. The GOP would be wise to remove all daylight between themselves and DeLay.
no problem, throw the libs a bone - errh scooter - with all they were dreaming ala 22 people charged, etc., it's really a laugh (though still disappointing on WH behalf) - nothing changes the fact Joe Wilson remains a proven LIAR, however.
Amen! The libs are cornered wounded rats and they know it. Right is Right, Wrong is Left.
It is not just ego driven, it is money driven. The guy has done nothing but milk the government for two years. Now his free ride is about to expire and he needs an indictment to keep the money coming in. Another year of sucking milk from the American taxpayer.
Has Rove or Libby "lied"? The last I heard is that Rove may have forgotten a conversation he had with Matt Cooper 4 years ago.
If Fitzgerald indicts Rove for a memory lapse all future testimony to any federal grand jury will have one answer: "I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may tend to incriminate me".
I doubt he gets paid any more than he did before he got the job. Maybe he's hoping that this exposure will eventually make him rich and famous in private practice, but I would not count on it.
Personally, I sympathize with the notion that witnesses should not lie to grand juries, even if there is no "underlying crime." Afterall, how can you determine that there is no "underlying crime," unless people tell the truth? On the other hand, if he's going to use that rationale for prosecuting his witnesses, then he should not limit himself to investigating Administration employees. He should be asking whether Wilson, Plame, and the various reporters told the truth, as well.
bttt
As tired as I am of all of the speculation, I see that speculation itself is the heart of the democratic strategy. The outcome itself to all of this Rove/Libby/Plame nonsense is overshadowed by all of the suspense leading up to a verdict. What the democrats want to do is keep everyone talking about this stuff day-in and day-out because then it prevents us from getting anything important done, which of course negatively impacts the republican poll numbers and keeps the dems in the running for 2006.
