TONY BLAIR served warning last night that the West might have to take military action against Iran after worldwide condemnation of its Presidents call for Israel to be wiped off the map.
Ending a one-day European Union summit, the Prime Minister called the explosive declaration by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday a disgrace.
Promising discussions with Washington and other allies over how to react, Mr Blair said that he had often been urged not to take action against Iran.
But, he continued: If they carry on like this the question people will be asking us is when are you going to do something about Iran? Can you imagine a state like that with an attitude like that having nuclear weapons?
It was the first time Mr Blair had even hinted at military action and his words are likely to alarm Labour MPs. Mr Blair, clearly angry at the Presidents outburst, said that there were people in Irans leadership who believed that the world was sufficiently distracted with everything else that it could not afford to focus on the nuclear arms issue.
They will be making a very big mistake if they do that. Those sentiments are completely unacceptable. I have never come across a situation in which the President of a country has said they want to wipe out another country not that they have a problem with a country but they want to wipe it out. That is completely unacceptable.

World leaders, almost to a man, have condemned Ahmadinejad's words as "unacceptable" (at the very least). Annan, otoh, merely expresses "dismay" -- dismay that the Iranian President exposed his real intentions, no doubt. ....NOT dismay that he has those intentions in the first place.
Wipe Israel off the map? The Israeli military could crush Iran whenever it felt like it. No contest.
You'd think Israel would be the first to serve this warning instead of the UK.
Correction: The mullahs wouldn't let over 80% of the people who wanted to run in elections run.
Do these people who bash Blair think that there is still coordination between him and Bush? Because his reaction seemed genuine to me.
B2's and B83 warheads set to max. About 40 of the bombs used, at the facilities and major economic sites of Iran.
Its time the RAF Tornados paid Iran a visit.
With full bomb loads.
Hardly. Look at the cost to both Bush and Blair on Iraq and regardless they have stayed fast on Iraq.
It's always fun when FreeRepublic goes to war. Unfortunately, policy makers almost never come along.
They've become anti-western socialists and could care less.
If the Iranian people don't cool this guy down, their entire country will soon be a glass parking lot for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait.
They need to add military C-and-C and the heads of the Iranian government to the target list. If they pick off Al-Muhahaha or whatever his name is, and half the Supremely Crazy Cleric Council, it could cut the head off the snake and make future Islamic governments think twice about f-ing with Israel. And we owe them one as well - so I personally hope there will be a trilateral attack, with the US, UK, and Israel flying side-by-side.
They lost me at the nation re-building thing...It was one thing to knock some heads but to stay and change the game on us is a little irritating. All Im am asking is that we dont spend one more dime or one more life after we cull them back.
I would absolutely LOVE to have WWII-esque pro-America propaganda posters and media these days, instead of our President celebrating Ramadan with the Enemy.
I would assume that an attack by Israel would be as a last resort, and for national survival. Their military is intelligent and top rate. I would assume that every asset, from commandos to F-16s to missiles would be used. I really believe that they would succeed, because they will be deadly serious, and failure is not an option. Plus both of our militaries have ties in many ways, and if Israel were to pull off an operation like this, I believe we will be opening some doors for them.
If I only had the resourses to do so I would put a little more action where my mouth is. I just wonder if there is something we could come up with like during the election when we helped defeat Kerry?
