I like the Pope's explanation of "original sin" which is found in his book about creation. It's in one of the 5 homilies. Simplifying it a bit he argues that "original sin" is a result of mans attempt to become god which damaged the relationship between man and God. This damaged relationship and is cause affects all of our other relationships. This damages our relationship with our children, etc which is how it is passed on from father to son. Only God can fix the relationship and that's what God was doing with Jesus.
As I said I'm simplifying his argument and would suggest you read his homily. His explanation is far better than something passed down through sexually.
