Ryan Miner, 19, of Hagerstown, Md., was sanctioned by Duquesne after posting his view in The Facebook, an online directory that is not related to the university.
Miner opposed an effort by other students to form a Gay-Straight Alliance group, an issue that is still being debated by the university.
"I believe as a student that my First Amendment rights in the Constitution were subverted and attacked," said Miner.
After Miner's comments appeared online, some students complained to the school.
After a hearing, the Office of Judicial Affairs found Miner guilty of violating the University Code, which prohibits harassment or discrimination based on sexual orientation, among other groups.
A 10-page paper was assigned as punishment. Miner said he refuses to write it and will file an appeal.
Yet accurate and logical...
We can't have logic or dissent at universities while they are trying to molest the minds and bodies of young people, can we?
In a biological sense, the very essence of the human creature is defined by sexual reproduction. Perversion of that makes you much less so in the scheme of natural selection and/or evolution, doesn't it?
LOL! ...this from, "LittleBoPeep"
"In a biological sense, the very essence of the human creature is defined by sexual reproduction. Perversion of that makes you much less so in the scheme of natural selection and/or evolution, doesn't it?"
Even as an atheist, you must agree that according to what you wrote above, there are millions of heterosexuals who are practicing "perversion". Heterosexual sodomy and oral sex are certainly not procreative.
I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt so I'm more likely to believe him. That is, that he was referring to behavior, but this a Catholic university - a place that, as I see it, should take a biblical stand on the issue. There's either more to this or the university is wrong to give any weight to the complaint.
Actually it is a comment regarding your moral relative meanderings that only rise to the level valid discourse on forums such as DU where the bizarre is commonplace and morality is turned on its head daily...
"Actually it is a comment regarding your moral relative meanderings"
I'm not the one who is engaged in moral relativism. The Bible condemns all sodomy. It was the student was singling out homosexuals.
Contacting the Diocesan Bishop (whoever he is) may prove more productive than contacting the University President...
The big question here, in a purely secular context, is what is it that makes us human?
Does human life have a biological purpose? Does anatomical function define this?
Sexual reproduction defines us as a species in the natural world. Natural selection and evolution are totally dependent on this. To do otherwise makes you less human.
Animals will defend their young with extreme violence, something too many humans do not observe.
I think what makes a person fully human is how they love and raise their children. Not doing this makes you less human...
"Contacting the Diocesan Bishop (whoever he is) may prove more productive than contacting the University President..."
You obviously know very little about Roman Catholicism if you think the local Catholic bishop is going to support a student who referred to homosexuals as "sub-human".
I certainly DO agree. Anatomical function is axiomatic.

"I think what makes a person fully human is how they love and raise their children. Not doing this makes you less human... "
So I guess that means that millions of childless couples are also "sub-human" in addition to all the heterosexuals who practice oral sex and sodomy.
Sacred Scripture condems many things -the student is opposed to homosexuality on campus. You attempt to morally equate homosexuality to sodomy (FALSE)... You attempt to equate homosexuality to heterosexuality (FALSE).... You moral relatively miss the point -homosexuality is a disorder that predisposes one to intrinsically disordered sexual activity with members of the same sex (PERIOD)... Regardless what other things may be -good, bad or indifferent -homosexuality is always a disorder and homosexual activity is always intrinsically disordered -period...
Moral relative truth is truth derived by comparing and contrasting things one chooses to relate whereas absolute truth is truth based upon moral absolutes e.g. God, His Word, His natural law etcetera...
Regardless -what the student may or may not have done or may or may not do AND how you may or may not effectively argue the homosexual agenda talking points. The University is required to observe Catholicism and what the student is substantively opposed to that is happening on campus is correct and legitimate -period and inspite of your straw man and moral relative musings...

First of all, referring to homosexuals as "sub-human" is not the way to oppose "homosexuality on campus". Secondly, it's not me, but the Bible that condemns ALL sodomy -- not just homosexual sodomy. Why are heterosexuals who engage in sodomy not also "sub-human"? You and this student are the ones engaged in moral relativism.
Natural selection, they are weeding themselves out of the gene pool... Nature requires no permission or approval...
That is logical...
"Regardless -what the student may or may not have done or may or may not do"
What the student said is the whole point. If the student had said he believed that homosexuality is morally wrong, we wouldn't be having this discussion. The student said that homosexuals are "sub-human". That's what caused the problem. I said previously that the student should be given the right to apologize. If he chooses not to do so, the University is right to expel him.
Maybe because the heterosexuals who practice such perversions aren't marching in the streets or trying to form special clubs at Catholic universities?
Particularly since the site where he posted was not associated with the university.
