For now it means that O'Connor stays on the bench, probably into next year.

How she was insulted and attacked by the right when she resigned. Now they have her there on the bench for a period of time.

Seems the so called movement conservatives were out to prove all the things that have been said about them by many who refuse to vote republican.

The whole thing has been disturbing and disappointing on many levels, including the ones you mention.

On the up side, it sounds like the President has an announcement of a new nominee ready right out of the box. He isn't starting over.

That is a very interesting development. It means they've been working on this for a while now and knew that Miers was going to withdraw long enough ago that they were able to vet someone else.

I guess the bottom line is, the situation is what it is. We can only work to turn things for the better from here.
