It doesn't matter what Ted Kennedy says. He wasn't going to vote for Bush's nominee anyway.

What does matter is that Bush selects a solid conservative, and that conservatives then direct steam at the pendulous buttocks of enough RINOs to get to 51 votes.

"Our side took the bat to the President's head."

I always thought that conservative principals included principals rather than blindly supporting a pol because of the letter next to his name. Sort of like the Clinton apologists that make fools of themselves.

But I guess now that I'm no different than the movement folks on the left because I thought the nominee was a very, very bad one on many levels and said so that I'm no longer a member of the republicans.

Guess I can now say that I didn't leave the republican party, it left me. And just think, after 40+ years of blood, sweat, tears, countless worn out shoes, sore throats from working phone banks and traveling to exotic states on my own dime to help get out the vote.

I'll continue to believe that my first obligation is to my country, not a person. Good luck to those that believe otherwise.

"Miers would have been a great conservative."

And you have objective proof of this? Please provide a source and I'll be glad to read it with an open mind, it's just that I haven't yet heard that argument other than "trust me".

And you have objective proof of this?

No, and nobody has objective proof that she wouldn't.

However, based on Bush's overall record of working with and appointing excellent people, I believe she is an excellent person.

If her speech to the Dallas Executive Woman isn't objective proof I don't know what is. What part of that speech can a conservative endorse?

A speech from the past is not objective proof of how someone will act in the future no matter how you spin it.

No way.

And you think a beat up President is good for our country, our troops?

Yes, but wasn't the pitch that she wouldn't change? If she's changed from 10 years ago it wouldn't it be more prudent to go with someone that's sung the same song for the last 20 years? No guarantee that they won't change either, but at least it's a consistent record.

So you didn't utter anything critical about Clinton for fear it was bad for our country and our troops?

That's not how my world works. Any time any pol does something that, in my view, is bad for our country I feel it's my duty to speak out.

During my life I have let the founders down to the point that I do not deserve what they gave us. Even so I feel I must continue to maintain a modest amount of resistance to further damage.

Not necessarily. Depends on the person. Some people who have had transformations actually have more power than people who have stayed the same.

Reagan's experience as a Democrat made him more committed to the truth when he discovered it.

Racists like David Duke, Al Sharpton and Calypso Louie Farrakhan sure love having fools like you around.

"They've changed, I swear!"

"Sure, Harriet changed from that...but she won't change NOW!"

SD, you and your bitter RINO buddies go on, fight the last battle. Meanwhile we'll gear up for the war, and expect you and your pack to desert if a conservative is nominated. As usual, you expect us to take a bullet for RINO nominees and candidates, but when it comes to conservative nominees and candidates, we're all crazy for trying to put in "extremists," and you're all out of the line of fire and loading the ammo belts of the left.

“I had recommended that the President consider nominating Ms. Miers because I was impressed with her record of achievement

Huh? What'd I miss? Record?

He set himself up?

No, I'm suspicious that Harry Reid made the recommendation. I don't think Harriet just happened to pass the breakfast room door and Harry said "Hey...how about Harriet, she's nice".

Since Harry made the recommendation, I'm supposing that the dems vetted her.
