It is why we are here, the struggles.

These are the training grounds for universal career to come.

We are in our infancy.

Thanks for your kind response.

It all boils down to the question of whether what he did meets the University's definition of "harrassment". Of course, these days, anyone who merely reads, hears, or hears about anything that merely upsets them is considered harrassment, so who knows.

And I'm saying that, as far as I can tell, based on the information in the article, it doesn't look like his actions violated any contract, at least not according to the terms indicated in the article.

There is not enough information in the article to determine whether or not there were contractual breaches by either the student or the university. That's my whole point. I think the outcome is stupid and reprehensible, but on the facts presented I can't say the university is not within its rights. That all depends on facts 'not in evidence.'

Referring to homosexuals as subhuman isn't the best way to express yourself. Besides the obvious fact that homosexuals are human, it's far better to write about what science says on the subject and to mention the growing number of ex-homosexuals.

For instance, science is quite hostile to the born-that-way theory. In other words, there is no such thing as a gay gene. For an excellent overview of what science says, checkout:

Or read the following:

I think Miner (the student) would have received less attention had he wrote about the above instead of referring to homosexuals as subhuman.

so true. The local Church there needs to sue in order to be disassociated from the school. (if it is, in deed, not subject to any Church authority). If it is subject to Church authority, they had better be reprimanded--and fast!

No, Ryan. It might not be right, but it is all too human. Sorry.

I agree - although name calling is not (or should not be) a punishable offense. I didn't get from the article exactly how he used the term; was it a chat forum or what.

He also committed the offense of opposing a Gay Straight Alliance group, so people were probably on the lookout for hatespeech crimes.

GSA's are just part of GLSEN.

The GSA's are intentional recruiting arms of the homosexual lobby. It is their EXPLICIT intent and design to induce as many MINORS AS POSSIBLE to engage in a homosexual act and then be labled homosexual.

In essence it is public school sanction sexual molestation.

And yet the propaganda media is defeningly silent.

I concur. He made the comment on an online forum not related to the university so he should be able to do that without retribution... unless he signed something preventing him from openly expressing himself when he joined the Catholic university. Other than that, I can't see the university having much of an argument.

If only Miner knew the benefits of diplomacy before he expressed himself...

Well, live and (hopefully) learn. When venting, one should choose one's audience carefully. When communicating so as to influence others to one's point of view, words should be chosen to facilitate the opposite party's being able to hear without getting angry.

If possible.

:-)

"Why does a university have any say over what a student does on an online discussion forum not hosted by the school? What happens to posters on FR if they're posting on the campi of Stanford, SUNY, Harvard, Yale or Brown and the PC police at their school discovers screen names are actually a student in their midst? I fail to see how the University has any jurisdiction here."

Let me say this. And any university students who post here should take it to heart. If the socialists who run most campuses were to find out you posted here, and participated in discussions, they could make your life bloody hell.

What we call engaging, spirited, contentious, challenging, intriguing, etc., they call racist, homophobic, mysoginistic, intolerant, etc.

Especially if you were already a "known" "troublemaker."

No problem. Do a 10 page report - one word per page:

You have a point but employers under current law can not consider those employees contractors. The Diversity mantra being pushed by liberals and liberal CEO is just another way to divide us by race and spread the hate among our society. Not one single company has ever sponsored an achievement aware for white males but almost every single one of them sponsors them for hispanics, blacks, homos, women and subcategories of each of those groups (black female). They will all put up chart with every type of group on it but only those groups previously listed get recognition.

Diversity by physical characteristics reduces productivity (scientific studies indicate) however diversity based on experience can improve productivity.

When you hear the term diversity think communism and hate.

You wrote: "[Homosexual behavior] might not be right, but it is all too human."

It depends on the somewhat elusive definition of "human."

If you mean, "Human beings do indulge in perversion," then: too, too true. If you mean: "This behavior is still within the norm for human beings," then it's false.

If Ryan meant, "Homosexuals are not human beings," he was wrong, and his statement is deplorable. If he meant, "Acts of perversion are beneath human dignity," he was right.

In any case, all I saw was the one line about "Homosexuality is (not "Homosexuals are) subhuman," and, while ambiguous, it seemed to be referring to the behaviors, not to the human status of the individuals.

Why didn't the concerned officials of Duquesne just write him a letter and ask, "What do you mean?" Or let him assemble a panel discussion on the subject.

That might arguably be related to the purposes and methods of "higher education."
