The United Nations Security Council today took up discussion on what Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might have meant when he called for Israel to be "wiped out from the map".
Secretary General Kofi Annan said Iran, as a member of the U.N., must be given the benefit of the doubt that the phrase was intended to encourage peaceful diplomacy.
"'Wiped' is a word that can denote cleanliness," said Mr. Annan. "The Iranian president may have simply meant that the map should be cleaned so Israel's legitmate borders are easier to see."
Mr. Ahmadinejad's remarks came during the month-long 'World without Zionism' celebration, and echoed the Ayatollah Khomeini's previous comments about map hygiene.
In related news, the U.S. House today begins debate on creation of a month-long holiday called 'World Without Islamofascism.'
President George Bush said he looks forward to celebrating the new holiday with a ceremonial "wiping of the map."
...or I am because I didn't recognize the satire. :-/
(Annan is a buffoon anyway. :^P )
But what did the Burger King say?
No, it was a stupid article. Not funny at all.
It is true that Annan doesn't care about Isreal and the FACT that Iran's new leader has called for the destruction of Isreal AND the USA.
The article, not being at all funny, and hitting so close to reality, thus just makes it stupid and wastes people time.
So give me a break and put SATIRE in the headline.
LOL! That's funny! I almost fell for it until I read the last line. :o)
Pookie, you are too funny!
This isn't the first time I've fallen for something. Gotta pay more attention to the source. It's scary that it's so hard to tell real life from satire anymore.
Scrappleface is so spot on with their satire I always have a WTH moment of outrage before I realize it's them. Genius. But so sad to know it has come to this.
See, there is a use for the U.N. after all! They can debate the meaning of words. This is why Bill Clinton would make a great Secretary General. I always thought that "wipe" meant to remove something thoroughly, as in "Asswipe", the nickname of the President of Iran.
Kofi should read the history of the Nazis, and then look at the current Iranian regime.
Damn satires get me every time. In this World, you can't tell the difference.
That's what makes good satire, plausibility! Close enough to the truth as to be indistinguishable.
Regards,
GtG
PS "ScrappleFace" is a dead giveaway.
I'm such a sucker. LOL
'Depends on what the meaning of "is" is.'
Oh, I collect all sorts of things. I never know when I might use them...actually, I do know!!!
How do you save the image and maintain the "movement"? When I do simple "Save As", the movement is lost. Thanks!
