Well, as an evangelical, I feel angry and upset. Harriet Miers is a good woman who was slandered for political reasons. I saw posts that called her "a waste of human life" here.
Fine. The President nominates another candidate for justice; there's a big fight in Congress; both the Left and the Right are energized; hip hip hooray for our side!
What about Mrs. Miers?
If it were me, I'd be walking out the door into private life and never talking to the press or another politician again.
She deserves some apology and I believe some concrete compensation in terms of an award or another post suited to her, because, frankly, words are cheap in Washington. But words are also daggers that cannot be withdrawn.

But words are also daggers that cannot be withdrawn. Well, I wouldn't say she deserves compensation, but I doubt she'll have any fondness for David Frum or George Will. Frum was particularly vindictive, but that's what I've come to expect from that little weasel.
National Review has wrecked itself among a great many conservatives, as has Kristol's little rag.
She will get no apology from anybody, because, you see, anything can be done or said if the country's best interests are at heart. (/sarcasm)
