Sorry, but I don't think the "conservatives have been unfair to Miers" argument holds water.
Were there a few isolated personal attacks? Sure. Did some people use her selection to bash the Prez? Unfortunately, yes.
Almost all the "unfair" attacks on Miers' nomination, however, were based on her lack of qualifications for the position. This wasn't a Borking -- she wasn't attacked as a danger to the American way of life (no one talked ominously of Harriet Miers' America), her religious beliefs weren't denigrated, and her prior writings weren't deliberately distorted. As demonstrated by her lack of a public record, she simply wasn't an individual who'd thought seriously about the Constitution and its appropriate role in American society.
You think what you will, despite evidence to the contrary. You console yourself with the notion that this was a principled opposition. I'm sure it was for some people. But no amount of after-the-fact whitewashing is going to erase the truth that right out of the box, people like Ann Coulter dismissed Ms. Miers on elitist grounds, and most so-called real conservatives with a variety of grievances against GWB were eager to pile on.
There is NO distinction between what you people did to Ms. Miers, and what the Left has done to countless Republicans and conservatives for many years.
