What a spin.

What a spin.

So, that's how the Anti-Miers people are going to spin it? That's the line, the mantra that's going to be spewed from here on out...she withdrew her nomination? She withdrew her nomination? That's rich...unbelievable.

Bush will not appoint anybody who Specter does not support.

Hmmmm...so Specter is da Prez?
Or is Bush just afraid of him?

They denied a nominee the chance to have her say before a committee for the office of the Supreme Court.

Denial seems to be a theme around here. She pulled her own nomination because she did not want to release WH records, which would be the heart and soul of any means of meeting the real Harriet Miers.

It took three or four weeks to find one speech. The White House could have made this available. Heck, Harriet Miers could have made it available. She chose not to, and for obvious reasons.

I'm wondering, did you fight this hard when Bernie Kerik was "denied" his day in front of the Senate?

Roberts was incredibly qualified and knowledgeable on Constitutional law. Meiers wasn't.

The Constitution: It ain't long and it ain't complicated. And if it is, then we aren't a nation of laws, we're a nation of lawyers.

The Censorship around here over the past month has been stunning.

Yep, it has been stunning.

What are YOUR "qualifications" then for Associate Justice to the Supreme Court? And then, after you spell those out, please support your opinion with a cite to said qualifications being required by Article and Chapter in the U.S. Constitution.

Yes, you're right. I am in the Christian camp; however, I am also a conservative. In that case, how could it be me "against them". Doesn't make sense.

I just know you'll both get a kick out of this one ...

But now he many not want to risk the hard line conservatives.

I will say this right here for all to see: if George Bush buckles to the hardliner malcontents, he will lose my support, period.

I'm sick tp death of all the bashing and trashing; I'm sick of a small group of people who NEVER WANTED HIM AS THE NOMINEE IN THE FIRST PLACE, wailing and moaning about everything he does.

If he lets you all run him into a corner, I'm done with him. And there sure as hell are more of "me" than there are of "you." I won't be the only one to go.

Point being, we ALL post things from time to time, that we don't literally mean. Like it or not, we are all in this boat together, may as well maike the most of it.

Oh, really? Bushbot? Kool aid drinkers? What are those and similar epithets designed to do except to marginalize and silence?

*Cough* "elitist", "sexist", and much much worse - and not made as an addition to a supporting argument, but in lieu of one. Shall I tag you with these as you tag me and others with arguments we have never made?

WRT the "qualifications" issue, that's again something I never made, so I won't speak for others.

Ah...that's where you don't yet recognize the damage you've done. I am a life-long Republican. Never voted for a Dem. Never will. I have voted for a long, long list of conservative Republicans because they tend to represent my policial point of view. I share many, if not most of the same political positions as does your crowd. It is your tactics, your vitriol, your piling on, your dismissiveness of those of us who admire and support GWB that has alienated me. Permanently.

I've never voted for a Dem, never will either. And I doubt you are talking from anything but momentary passion. But let me tell you, this straight-line GOP voter would not be casting any more GOP votes had Miers been confirmed, and so would a heck of a lot more than the ones who are so upset that this nomination failed that they are crying that the ball is theirs and that if they can't win every time they're taking it home.

You people scare me as much as the hard Left does.

I'm finding it harder and harder to tell the difference between what you want and what the Left wants. Both are extremely bad for conservatives. Who cares how many conservatives you have voted for if you're ready to betray us on every crucial issue like the rest of the liberal GOP camp?

"This is also a sure sign that Rove will be indicted."

Or it could be a sign that Rove will not be indicted.

There is also the idea that this nomination was red meat to get the base ready to pressure our weak spined, weak kneed, weak wienie RINO'S to stand with the President and support a conservative. This was to force the Usurping 14 to realize who is President and it isn't them.

No, it wasn't a betrayal. Cut out the hyperbole.

She may not have had the credentials and bulldog conservatism that we wanted, but she certainly wasn't the 'disaster' that some extremists who attacked her claim she was.

The nominee STILL has to get past the RINOS in the Senate. I'm praying that the President finds someone else who is CONSERVATIVE, and can actually make it through the process.

There aren't many people out there who qualify.

"And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates."

Whoa! I don't think I've read any posts which say they hate Miss Miers. You are the one with the hate.

Just because I feel there are others better equipped to serve, doesn't mean that I hate the woman.

Geez!

In the end, IMHO, it will be an apparent moderate who will tilt one way or the other once on the Court.

Which a stealth candidate would do anyway. Better the devil you know when dealing with such an important position and especially when a LIFETIME tenure is involved.

Kristol has opposed the President on a number of baffling and dismaying occasions. Others have documented them. Kristol will not oppose the president for the sake of doing so like a Dem, but he does take every opportunity to do so.

What if it is Luttig, and after the nuclear option he gets confirmed, and turns out to be worse than Souter? Then you'll be thinking Miers would not have been so bad.

By then, Miers will be a hypothetical. Intelligent people do not waste time pondering hypotheticals. How nominee's act after they get to the Court are up to them. It's their integrity and character on the line then. Souter, obviously was disingenuous, or of weak character. That is his fault. It should have been discovered before he was nominated, and that is GHW Bush's fault. That is not always easy to though, if the candidate wants to hide it.

I'm and evangelical and a conservative. Which "camp" do I fall into?

Take a look at the Evangelical leaders who supported Miers, and then take a look at the pundits who opposed her. The only group in the anti-Miers camp is the CWA. You just saw a strong Evangelical borked by the extreme right, and it is going to have a profound effect on the conservative movement.

"I respect the President far more than I do the goons on this forum who have been downright evil in their attacks on this woman, and on the President. I don't trust the nasty extremist minority on this forum any more than I trust Howard Dean, John Kerry or Ted Kennedy. They're peas in the same pod."

I love your "kind" depiction of main stream conservatives. You are routinley far more nastier than and to, those people to whom you refer in the above reply.

Get a clue. That's pretty much the same way they feel about you. But they're not meanspirited enough to publicly state it.

One would be hard pressed to find a difference between your posts on this thread and SOUR GRAPES.

Your side lost this round. Accept it with dignity and grace.
