Nothing is more dangerous than religion in politics and government when it becomes divisive," he said. "I'll give you examples: Iraq. Northern Ireland. Palestine." Can't think of any negative situations under athiestic governments??? Communism has murdered 100,000,000 people or so...maybe that's as bad as Northern Ireland....

We're already in the middle of a 'religious war' between secularists and people of faith. This dovetails with Howard Dean's statement last week that he was tired of the Ayatollah's in the Republican Party. The extremists both Danfoth and Dean are referring to are middle of the road Christians who take their faith seriously-that's all. Christians aren't a threat to the Republican Party, but their heart and soul-re their defense of our founding documents and right to individual liberty.
Every atheist or agnostic conservative I know respects the Christians in the party, and visa versa. You have to wonder who these people are who are so quick to say 'get out'.

I would submit that Communism as it's been practiced was a religion. There was an orthodoxy and those who didn't heed to it were dealt with. The only difference between Stalinist Russia, Maoist china and Calvin's Geneva is that the latter's belief system had a theology.
