Got back last night from my third hurricane rescue mission.

My dog, Midnight, isn't certified yet, but he's a hell of a good sniffer. He can smell a drop of three-day old salsa on a t-shirt. He can smell a poopy diaper on my 2-year-old godson from 30 yards and he can tell when a woman is having her period. His tell is a vigorous bark.
It's a little embarassing with women.
We went to New Orleans, and after 4 days, He found 5 bodies, the last of whom was a 10-month old child. He developed an abscess on his hind leg from the sewage in New Orleans, even though we hosed him off with bleach every night.
We were pulled back to the morgue in St. Gabriel, LA, where as a physician, I performed post-mortem exams on the victims.
A few weeks later, we deployed to SW Louisiana, where my firefighter/bodyguard, Lurch and I went door-to-door with dog, sledgehammer, chopsaw and crowbar. Lurch is about 8 feet tall, 4% body fat, and mean as hell. I believe he did time as a juvenile for murder.
We went to south Florida and kicked in doors looking for victims. None found, thankfully.
30 days to go.
