"The scorched earth policy of conservative ideologues--"I'd rather be right than in charge"--will probably lose the House and sink a half-century of work down the toilet."

Right....

The largest increase in entitlement spending since LBJ,

Support of RINO's like Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey,

COMPLETE and UTTER failure to reform Social Security,

Support for sovereignty surrendering agreements like LOST,

Failure to tell the WTO to pound salt,

Failure to tell the UN to pound salt,

SPENDING like Drunken Democrats......

The apparent failure of the Tax Reform Commission to propose any meaningful change........

NOW the Harriet Miers nomination.......

ALL that and we're still supposed to support these idiots, just because they're our idiots? Right. Slap my back and call me an ideologue.

That just about sums it for a lot of us. I don't care whose idiots they are, they're idiots.

I voted Bush 2000/2004. Contributed $200-$400 every election cycle since 1996.

Next year, I'm contributing $0. I might send back a fund raising letter with post paid by RNC with a brick tied to it.
I'm sitting home and watching it all hit the fan.

I've had enough.

How about some different aspects of your list.:

First President to TRY to reform Social Security--with lukewarm support from the base and Congress.

I don't remember the administrations supporting LOST

Lots of conservative judges appointed.

Standing behind Bolton and then recess appointment to stand up to the UN about reform.

You can talk about spending, but the Congress proposes. The Pres. went along and I'll give you he's not right about that.

He kept Spector because in Rove's judgement Toomey couldn't win. Another 'rather be right than win' scenario.

So he likes Harriet and may be mistaken about her past positions. Bad vetting. You want to throw out the GOP majorities because of that?

I'm not a RINO, just an old pol who wants to win and rule.

It may be that what will happen before we turn to the Right again is that all the RINO's lose, and we get rampant, galloping socialism and tyranny for a while, which wakes people up to overturn them and elect REAL Conservatives.

I'd prefer that not happen, as I remember the evil days of Carter and Clinton, but as the liberal GOP gets more and more squishy, and fights for less and less, and compromises on ever-greater policies, eventually people will just think to themselves "Why bother electing a Democrat Lite when I can elect the real thing?"
