It's highly unlikely that any of them have any "state secrets" to divulge....but their defection gives El Commandante publicity that wouldn't please him.

He cares a lot, trust me. These people were allowed out of the country because they are supposed to be propaganda ambassadors of goodwill to the West.

They are allowed out of the country because the presumption is that they are too loyal or too cowed to defect.
