Look up birth statistics. It used to be 1.06 to 1 M:F at birth but that's decreasing in a lot of places, apparently.
In addition, males engage in riskier behavior [darn that testosterone!] and die off at higher rates, so we don't remain a majority for very long after birth.

1950--- 98.6 males per 100 females
1980--- 94.5 males per 100 females
1940-- 66,062,000 males--------65,608,000 females
1950-- 74,833,000 males--------75,864,000 females
The US ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS had more males that female inhabitants until the Second World War killed off a half-million men; a lot of GIs brought home foreign wives; some guys stayed in foreign lands after getting out; foreign men immigrated as always to the US.
