The Boston Globe was sure to run an above the fold story on the front page about this "auspicious" event today. Guaran-effin-teed this story, by Thomas Farragher, was in the can and ready to go months ago. Is the Globe glad it can finally use it? Damn straight it is.

Further information reveals Thomas Farragher is a member of the Globe's "Spotlight" investigative journalism team---the same team that brought to light the Catholic child abuse scandal. Why is an investigative journalist covering the 2,000th American death in Iraq? Hmmm . . .

I saw that, too. The Boston Globe and the rest of the mainstream news media are positively giddy right now. They are convinced that their journalistic Glory Days are upon them once more, with Iraq substituting for Vietnam and the Plame case for Watergate. Pretty soon, they're going to break out the bellbottoms and fat ties and suede suits again, and march on the Mall.
