Hmmm... before we go flying off the handle, perhaps we should see the Swimmer's remarks in context. It is possible (albeit extremely unlikely) that "this auspicious day" was in reference to the Iraqi Constitution, which would actually be correct.
It'd still be pathetic to then use that to launch into a "2000 deaths" wail to belittle the acheivement, of course. I just want to make sure I'm not getting into a huff over the wrong thing.
