Did Bush just go with his gut on this one without bothering to have anyone research this woman's writings, letters, speeches or beliefs? Or is it something more sinister than that?

I don't think there's anything sinster going on with the Miers nomination. Bush was in a tight spot (Katrina, Iraq, Rove, etc.) and went for a convenient choice rather than one that would require a fight.

Ironically enough, however, Miers has caused far more ruckus than someone like Janice Rogers Brown would have.
