Ok, some of October is great.
It's just that I HATE Halloween (although I understand other people love it and that is fine) and sometimes, by the end of the month, I just want it all to go away. I become the big old Mom grouch. "No you can't watch that on tv, no more candy, we aren't going to spend $200 for a costume when we have this perfectly good pillowcase no one will notice the flowers...etc. etc."
So, I think that may be clouding my perceptions at this point. This weekend we were at a lake and it was stunningly beautiful. If I hadn't had this nasty old cold, it would have been even better!
It kind of ruins the mood when you are sitting in the middle of a beautiful still lake in a canoe while a beautiful bald eagle looks on from the trees as you desperately scrounge around for some kleenex. LOL. Kind of ruins the mood!

We always let the kids trick or treat in the neighborhood, but we didn't ever spend much on the costumes. Used old clothes and made some pretty interesting things (my Roman soldier costume for elder son was AWESOME! I took a plastic Indians batting helmet and turned it around, stuck a wisk broom through the top, added some cardboard ear flaps and spray painted it gold. :)
Not good to have a cold in the fall though.............or the winter, or the spring, or the summer..........
