Another one of these smart-dumb lists but this one seems to have an actual source. The list is also more spread out between red and blue states than the BS ones of the past.

There are a lot of factors involved in this ranking that have nothing to do with the intelligence or educational levels of the residents.

How smart can a state be whose motto is, "We don't care who you marry, provided we get the license fee."

States were graded on 21 factors, including student achievement and attendance, positive outcomes, strong student-teacher relationships and school district efficiency.

Any of these related to the purported conclusion?

...guess all those swedes illegally crossing the border in Arizona don't quite make it up to Vermont before they find work. Remember klintoon was the "education president" even though Arkansas was rated # 48 of all the states.

These are the top two factors in the "smartness rankings"

1) Public Elementary and Secondary School Revenue per $1,000 Personal Income (Table 55)

2) Percent of Public Elementary and Secondary School Current Expenditures used for Instruction (Table 133) +

Remember, they're measuring kids, not adults. Obviously, the more intelligent kids leave Vermont shortly after graduation -- no jobs there, for one thing -- and their place is taken by druggies and college professors and other undesirables.
