Considering that Yasser Arafat was Egyptian, you'd think Egypt and the Palestinians would have some kind of bond

BEcause the whole thing is a farce. Arafat was born in Cairo. Abbas was born in Jordan. 2 of the 3 other top P.A. leaders were born in Syria and Lebanon. There is no such thing as a "Palestinian".

Exactly. They are not a people. They are Middle East nomads who belong in Jordan.

No way in hell should Israel ever loosen their borders. If the "Palestinians" want their own state, then they have no need to be in Israel.
