How stupid. Wal-Mart can raise its wage anytime it wants to.
This has nothing to do with whether Walmart can raise their minimum wage...obviously they could.
But they aren't going to do it in a vacuum, by themselves...they are a low cost, high volume, low margin retailer and by raising their paid wages on their own they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
But no matter how many employees Walmart has, theres a much larger pool of Walmart shoppers. Raising the minimum wage by government decree makes ALL employers pay their employees more not just Walmart...it maintains their margins, and give Walmart shoppersf more to spend in the store.
What Sandy said. They can raise wages without being legally required to do so. We aren't addressing a maximum wage law. This really makes no sense.
no no no. They want the US government (you and me) to assist in a wealth transferrence scheme. Shoppers have more money, walmart has more money from the shoppers. They aren't growing fast enough and since people are maxed out, they are looking under new rocks for increased demand. How to do it? Print more money silly.
Wal-Mart ALREADY pays it's employees more than the minimum wage.
Or if it wants to help out "the poor" it could lower IT'S prices.
But they don't because they don't really care. If they did care, they'd raise their wage so their employees could afford to pay their bills. Instead, they continue to treat them like mere cattle as is the norm in the corporate mindset. Cure? The end of corporations is a start. Educating people in basic matters of morality would be another great idea.
