I don't know if this article is leaving something out, but 13 cases of liver failure over a 30 year period seems like an acceptable risk. Is there more to this, do you know?
I hadn't heard about even this much - I thought the prescription problem was just too many lawyers.
I suspect the fact that pemoline is (was) available as a generic and substitutes aren't might have something to do with it. Actually, it worked better for me than anything I've found since, and it was nice being able to have scripts phoned in (not possible with most alternative drugs).
That got my attention too. The drug's been on the market for 30 years and abbott has discontinued the sale of the drug this year for declining sales. FDA is just now posting a warning and telling doctor and patient what is an acceptable risk. Looks like the FDA is just covering it's politicized ass. I wonder who gets sued. Abbott or the generic company that pilfered it's patent?
