Now you see the dangers of MSM... could you tell there was still a war going on all week? Or that our favorite person will be chaining herself to a fence at the White House? (well you could do without that one). Did you practically see mugshots of Rove and Libby on TV yet?

Live from Germain Arena
Wilma makes landfall 22 miles south of Naples

By Andy Kent

OCTOBER 24, 2005

Hurricane Wilma made landfall this morning in south Collier County as a Category 3 storm, knocking out power and ending a weeklong journey through the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

The storm made landfall at about 6:30 a.m. near Cape Romano, which is 22 miles south of Naples.

Early reports as Hurricane Wilma continued to hit Collier County suggested the northern and eastern parts of the county will survive with minimal storm surge.

Collier Emergency Management Director Dan Summers said reports he has received so far indicate that North Naples, the City of Naples and East Naples have received almost no storm surge.

Marco Island has received storm surge. Summers said a portion of Collier Boulevard on the southern part of Marco Island is under 1 to 2 feet of water. The storm also knocked out power on the island.

The biggest question mark is now Everglades City, which took the brunt of the storm. Summers this morning said he hadn't received reports from the city and the southern part of Collier County is his biggest concern regarding storm surge.

As Summers spoke, the Collier Emergency Operations Center remained in lockdown with the doors shut and storm shutters locked. Rain could be heard hitting the windows outside.

It just occurred to me to wonder why my TV antenna is still standing. It was pretty bent and mangled by Charley, and I just kind of bent what was left back into place.

As far as I'm concerned about the only news of importance I seemed to have missed is this hurricane.

Noticed on WeatherUnderground that two of the models have Alpha heading towards FLA. One has it striking the northenmost keys.

70º here too. The 15' section of dangling pecan tree is now on the ground.

Meanwhile, I made the mistake of channel surfing to FNC. Steve Wooooooooah Harrigan is back to covering hurricanes. A gust of wind just blew him off camera. Large piece of roof just blew past him.

Okay, 1 glass of milk, 1 maximum strength Pepcid AC, 2 extra strength Tylenol, and one little bag of Whoppers...

There it is, the eastward jog.

Between 0700 and 0800 (EDT), Wilma's official position moved 24.9 miles on a bearing of 93.6 degrees magnetic, due east for all intents and purposes.

I imagine that later on, the 0700 (EDT) position will also be adjusted eastward. When a storm comes ashore the NHC has, in the past, switched from aircraft reports to radar analysis for position indicating. With an eye as ragged as Wilma's at landfall, some early confusion is expected.

Heads up, east coasters, that may move the exit point south.

See you all in three or four hours.

Ignore them completely; it's an artifact of the storm being annihilated and absorbed by Wilma, which will occur very shortly.

Steve Harrigan on Fox news reporting in Everglades City getting blown around in a live shot. Almost got nailed by a piece of roofing blowing past him.

1/2 hour ago he was reporting from the same position and the sky was blue and calm.
