"If you think Will is more qualified then Miers to sit on the SCOTUS, there's a bridge in my old home town I'd like to sell ya. If the WH sees fit to advance the Miers nomination with a different approach, so what. A lot of the attacks aimed at Miers have been of a personal nature. Just read Ann Coulter's recent columns. What started out as conservatives venting their frustration, has turned into angry rightwingers out for blood."
Here's one of those attacks: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1501577/posts
That's an attack? For somebody who thinks it's cute to put "BowTiedPopinJay" in the keywords, you sure seem to deplore anyone else having a sense of humor!

That was hilarious, and Rod Dreher was far from the first to use the Caligula's Horse comparison: here's far-left male Monica wannabee, Sid Blumenthal, in the Grauniad back in 2004 making the comparison about Bernie Kerik (not fair, entirely; unlike Julie Myers at ICE or Mike Brown at FEMA, Kerik had some relevant experience).
You can find hundreds of comparisons of Miers, Myers, Brown and other nepots to Caligula's Horse by Googling that term; and supposedly there had been an increase in people Googling that term since Harriet Miers was nominated.
The spotty sources on the reign of Caligula suggest that the young emperor's actual horse, Incitatus, may or may not have been made a Senator (judging from my Senators in Massachusetts, a whole horse is not required). Incitatus likewise may or may not have been elevated to the grade of consul (an honorary rank in the Empire).
I guess I'm an elitist for having read this stuff and retained a bit of it.
