Really, we're past the point of legal immigration, too. The Immigration Era was the late 1800s, not now. Now we are nearing 300 million population. There is congestion everywhere. Immigration is driving house prices out of reach for most Americans. It's diminishing the middle class and reducing our standard of living. Let's put a stop to it.

On the other hand, quality immigrants who bring needed skills to our economy and make great American citizens should be encouraged. Our native population is not reproducing at replacement level nor are we turning out the numbers of graduates in science and math needed to maintain our competitive edge. Even countries like Singapore and Japan allow such targeted immigration and they are far more crowded than we are-- ever take a cross-country trip and seen just how much open space this country has got?
