They are not in uniform. They are hiding among civilians. They do not represent any nation that is a signatory to the Conventions. These and other facts disqualify them from protection under the Conventions. Instead, they are subject to the Law of War, as explained clearly by the US Supreme Court in the Quirin case in 1942. They are subject to "drum head trials" and execution if found guilty.
Thank you.

WWII is called "the good war" by Democrats. But of course, FDR was in power over almost exactly the same span of time as was Hitler; to the extent that Churchill was right that WWII was "the unnecessary war," FDR was as responsible as anyone for failing to preempt it.
I've never heard such an odd view.
It was primarily the fault of Chamberlain and the French prime minister. The French president, Daladier, was a tragic figure who was unable to do anything to avert the doom he saw coming. He was also just a businessman who didn't belong in the presidency.
Hitler's government would likely have fallen if France and Britain had responded when he reclaimed the Rhineland. It is widely believed that his hold on government was so shaky that even a small show of force at that juncture would have caused a crisis of confidence in the German elite.
In a broader sense, it was the fault of all those who believed in the League of Nations, who issued security treaties willy-nilly that they couldn't possibly fulfill (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, etc.), of refusing to recognize the necessity to re-arm and re-train their armies to counter the Hitler threat. And it was the fault of those other parties to the Treaty of Versailles who enacted such punitive measures against Germany, so severe that they could never hope to overcome them, especially after the Depression started.
I don't like FDR. But I don't see how you blame him for WW II.

I don't like FDR. But I don't see how you blame him for WW II.There was tremendous resistance in Britain and in America to resisting Hitler before it was too late. But FDR proved he could play hardball in 1941; if he had done that earlier he might have been a real hero. I make no doubt that if he had done so he would have become unpopular, though.

No, this is a Halliburton War..the only reason, according to the idiots I've had to endure, that we invaded Iraq was to enrich the coffers of President Bush's cronies and Halliburton.
It was in all the papers../sarcasm

Somewhere in this statistical maze you also have to tally in the 3,000 Americans who died on a single day in September 2001,It was less than a day.
3,000 people died in less than 3 hours, with a kill ratio of 600 to 1.
You couldn't do that with a mini-gun mounted on HUMVEE, if your life depended on it.

I am flattered you found my essay informative; the link to your analysis was excellent as well and I have referenced it on my site. Both of us make the same point; that the modern American culture appears to lack the perspective or the fortitude to defend liberty. It is almost as if war - as a principled matter of defense - is being removed from our arsenal. The credo of pacifists is becoming the military policy of this country: war is bad, nothing is worth fighting for or dying for.
To: Logic Times
Glad to hear from you. Your essay is more than merely informative. I've read enough statistical work to know the huge amount of hard work that went into the text and tables that you produced.
Newsbusters is a worthy site. I hope the links to your article got some serious use as a result of the link to your article that I included. Also, you should know that the BBC World News quoted at length from my article, yesterday our time, today their time.
The more reporters read your work or my work, the better and more honest the 0press coverage will be. But we can only do what we can and hope for the best.
Cordially,
John / Billybob
