Good grief. How do we deal with people who are so indifferent to the evidence that is before their eyes.

Voltaire had a very favorable view of Islam. He contrased what he supposed to be its rationality to the "superstition" of Christianity. Obviously he had nerver had any contact with actual Muslims. Christianity and Judaism both
had a long history of association with Greek rationalism, which ended with such luminaries as Thomas Aquinas and Mamonides. The Muslims had a similar figure, Averroes. Whereas Aquinas and Maimondes are towering giants in Christian thought, Averroes and his ilk were repudiated, and Islam returned to the "purity" of the Koran.
