An aide to former Clinton Justice Department official Jamie Gorelick blocked the 9/11 Commission from hearing bombshell testimony about the findings of the elite Able Danger military intelligence team, Rep. Curt Weldon said late Friday.
"The person who debriefed [Able Danger analyst] Scott Philpot was, in fact, the lead staffer for Jamie Gorelick," Weldon told the Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." "His name was Dieter Snell."
Weldon contended: "It was Dieter Snell who did not brief the 9/11 Commission. The 9/11 Commissioners were never briefed on Able Danger."
Gorelick was the lead Democrat on the 9/11 Commission.
Weldon said Able Danger team members have been "gagged" by the Pentagon and by Defense Intelligence Agency leaders who stand to be embarrassed by their revelations.
"The Defense Intelligence Agency has people who were held over from the previous administration," he told Fox News. "They were there when [Able Danger] brought forward this information."
The Pennsylvania Republican said that besides identifying Atta and three other 9/11 hijackers as terrorist threats, Able Danger had warned of the impending attack on the U.S.S. Cole.
"Two weeks before the attack on the U.S.S. Cole," he told "Hannity & Colmes, "they sensed that something was about to happen in Yemen. Two days before the attack on the Cole - and the arrival of the Cole in harbor - they warned that the ship should not enter the harbor."
"This information needs to be brought to the public," Weldon said. "We lost 3,000 people here. This cannot be covered up. This is 3,000 times worse than Watergate."
Ouch........ they're already trying to hush us up here.
> Weldon contended: "It was Dieter Snell who did not

This now gives the commissioners some cover. Several
of them had been deprecating the AD story, and now
the honest ones can claim "we were never told".
Gorelick, of course, will continue here assigned
Commission role, of playing defense for Clinton.
That's because it's all a sick game, and to tell you the truth, you and I are wasting our time trying to do much of anything about any of it. They're (nearly) all crooked or compromised.
Everything about AD needs to exposed, but I don't believe Weldon's statement that, "The Defense Intelligence Agency has people who were held over from the previous administration." DIA has virtually all career personnel. Weldon needs to provide names before I believe that Clinton political appointees remain in place five years after he left office.
Then, may I ask you who of these members that you suggest may not have been there for that the coverup reason . ....who of them will step forward and castigate Gorelick and her staffer, Snell?????
That would be helpful.
Bush won't touch this with a ten foot pole.
Right from the start of his administration, he gave the clintoons a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.
This is the same Dietrich "Dieter" Snell who was the co-prosecutor in the Bojinka case and disregarded all the FBI evidence obtained from Gregory Scarpa Jr. re: Ramzi Yousef's involvement in the TWA Flight 800 case. HERE WE GO!
Thanks for the ping, my friend!
The REAL reason. . .? It was to cover the Clinton's posterior.
Feel free to contact Ms. Gorelick - jamie.gorelick@wilmerhale.com . She definitely welcomes your comments, definitely at her slick Washington, DC law firm.
Remember, she's only interested in uncovering the truth concerning 9/11. She really cares.
Yup! The only one who really has said anything about the Burglar is Curt Weldon. His speech contrasted the treatment of Sandy Burglar with that of Schaffer(sp)a decorated military officer who has been stripped of his security clearance and gagged by the DOD. The contrast is HUGE, and I'm disgusted with the DOD.
Kabar, you're right. Almost all the analysts are civil service employees. See my profile; I did four years there.
However, many are left-leaning, cold war detente believers who are shocked by President Bush's crass boldness. I was there during the Reagan years, and they thought he was a loose cannon, boat rocker, apple cart tipper, etc, because he dared challenge conventional wisdom. The same was true at CIA and State.
Now suppose this atttitude prevailed in May of 2000, and proved disasterously wrong on 11 Sept 2001? Don't you think they'd be some doing some serious CYA? Why the Bush folks aren't passionately driving them ot of the temple, though, is beyond me.
More Clintox leftovers still around and still free.
That can't be said enough, but just to point out that there is hope in the world I heard Weldon on one of the talk shows (Hannity, I think) say John Lehman is giving him strong encouragement.
It is. And it's rather interesting, isn't it, that the Clintonistas were covering for the terrorists throughout their administration?
This is merely the latest example.

I agree with your analysis 100%. I retired in 2000 after 28 years with State. Before that, I was a naval officer for 8 years. The bureaucracy loves the status quo and abhors anyone who disagrees with the conventional wisdom. The career bureaucrat does not owe any alliegence to the political class. Politicial appointees come and go. You learn to deal with and manipulate them recognizing that you can outlast them.

Here's my take on why Bush has not removed many of the career bureaucrats. First, it is extremely difficult to do administratively. Second, there is concern that some of these career bureaucrats (ala Clarke) can point fingers at everyone, including the Bush administration. They know where all the skeletons are buried. Finally, AD was not authorized by Congress and the Justice Department. Many of the folks involved, especially the military officers, now hold high and critical positions within DOD. Bush does not want to have them castigated and blamed for conducting unauthorized data mining against US citizens. That's why the records were destroyed.
" It all comes down to 'the prime directive'... that America's, 'couple-from-hell', must be protected at all costs. "
That`s it in a nutshell.Nothing will ever come of this.
Dietrich "Dieter" Snell is the Forrest Gump of Dem liberalism. He seems to be involved in everything associated with 9/11 before and after. He shows up in too many relevant places to be irrelevant.
