She is basically Gonzalez in drag

JMO, more like Charlton Heston in drag.

"The same liberties that ensure a free society make the innocent vulnerable to those who prevent rights and privileges and commit senseless and cruel acts," Miers wrote in Texas Lawyer when she was president of the state bar. "Those precious liberties include free speech, freedom to assemble ... access to public places, the right to bear arms and freedom from constant surveillance.

"We are not willing to sacrifice these rights because of the acts of maniacs," she concluded.

Harriet Miers, 1992

One of the F&F hosts clarifed that according to the information Fox has received, it is not WH aides who are doing the outreach directly, but conservative surrogates. ,p>Certainly they wouldn't do it directly. This all has to be done behind the curtin.

But thank God this administration is straight forward and doesn't do the trial baloons or gauge reaction to make policy :)

OOOPPPSS, if Fox is correct then that's exactly what they are doing.

The problem is that those "truly conservative" lawyers/pundits leading the opposition have descended to Ralph Neas/People For The American Way level of tactic's selective leaks including insinuations of criminality. Assuming, for the sake argument, that the Miers nomination is withdrawn, I hope he nominates Alberto Gonzales and very publicly reminds the Federalist Society that they are not president, he is.

Miers is awful.

She promoted race and gender preferences and quotas in hiring.

She is an activist supporter in reverse racial discrimination.

Look at yesterday's 9th circuit ruling upholding seattle's school district's reverse racial discrimination. Miers will uphold them. Miers will make middle class white men second class citizens.

Not me. I ain't just watching Wilma. Today I am putting-up my storm panels and buying some more wine. We conservatives are action-oriented :)

As to the intrigue, infighting, rumors, speculation etc about Miers, I find it fascinating and fun. I just hope the lady isn't harmed by all of this. She seems nice enough. I just figure that if she is in politics she has thick enough skin. I also think Rush had a funny suggestion. He said Bush could nominate her to replace Greenspan because she has always done her own banking and filled-out her tax returns.

I must be weird. I derive almost as much fun out of this process as I derive out of the NFL draft run-up. But, my wife (you know how women are) keeps insisting the Miers nomination is even more important than who will be the top defenisve lineman available when it comes time for the Raiders pick.

So they're reaching out to Senators? Isn't that how they got Meirs? It's not very likely the Senators are going to recommend Janice Brown or any other famous conservative and disrupt their current harmony. Bush had to go with Roberts to sneak one in and tried to do the same with Meirs. If you want Brown you better hope the article is BS.

It is the right of center folks that make things happen in the republican party. They are very very skeptical of Miers, and some are openly hostile.

The difficulty for the White House is that they have relied on the right of center network to advance, move, deliver...or whatever you want to call it----almost all of the issues important to GWB. FOr the most part--these networks are not there this time.

Frankly---if the White House could fire up there super secret computer spy machine and search all of the e-mails on the right with the words "Miers", "Withdrawal" and "Pool" they would be even more depressed.

Exactly.

You know, what Bush said he would do back in 2000 is really happening.

He is bringing people to agree on things across party lines.

Both Dems and Repubs are having a happy Bush-bash-fest over this. Who knew they would agree so strongly on one area? I think it's wonderful. We all are....one big happy family now.

Not at this time, she will go through the hearings, no matter the caterwauling from the right wing elite in the DC beltway.

It's not the elite right winger types within the DC beltway ... it's that so called sexist conservative base in the hinterland (of which I'm one) that refuse to be steamrolled by the Bushies. Miers isn't close to being the best candidate, we know it, and fund raising by the NRC has just dropped off the charts.

IF a withdrawel of her nomination happens, then the White House will have been placed into a position of the Conservatives' own making. And we'd better darn well be ready for battle. That includes fighting against (1) The gang of 14 -- particularly the RINOs in that group; (2) the filibuster/cloture rules; and (3) the general lack of Senate backbone, which actualy includes some of the people who have been "concerned" about the Miers nomination in the first place.

And all of THAT is even before we can hope to defend the record and the opinions of a next nominee. I am sure the President assumed in nominating Miers that the Senate wasn't up to the challenge of anything more difficult. Given the previous track records, I can't fault him for that (heck, he can't even get anyone to take Social Security seriously). So if we ultimately get what we asked for, then we had better be ready to prove him wrong. If not, then the liberals truly already run this country.

Is it necessary for you to slime F&F just because they are reporting something that you dislike?

Not at this time, she will go through the hearings, no matter the caterwalling well-reasoned objections from the right wing elite conservatives in the DC beltway.

I changed the text so the statement no longer screams liberalism.

I'm ready, willing and able to take on any kind of fight on behalf of a well-qualified originalist nominee.

"A true conservative couldn't get through this senate."

John Roberts appears to be pretty darn conservative. He got through just fine.

If she withdraws it will be because she didn't have conservative support. A truly conservative replacement would have such support, and would unify the party.

Except for the gang of 14 of course, and after JRB is Borked, then what?
