Something weird is going on in New Jersey.
The state is usually quick to bash, trash and kick its politicians to the curb, and perhaps with good reason, given all the recent scandals and corruption cases.
But Democrats and Republicans, pundits and professors, and just ordinary residents are gushing over a longtime member of the entrenched Trenton elite, a man widely viewed as an antipolitician of sorts, a bona fide Jersey guy, complete with rumpled suits, comb-over and a spaghetti-and-meatballs belly.
They speak of one Richard J. Codey, acting governor, and they do it with affection.
With a little more than two weeks to go until the election of a new governor, and with voters saying they are largely dissatisfied with their choices, which do not include Mr. Codey, many residents are already getting nostalgic about him and wish that he did not have to go.
For his part, Mr. Codey is said to have regrets about relenting to pressure by party leaders and allowing Senator Jon S. Corzine to be the Democratic nominee in the race against Republican businessman Douglas R. Forrester. "Was it fair? No, it wasn't fair," Mr. Codey said last week in an interview. "But life is not fair. And I never thought I'd get to be governor at all. So you're not going to hear me complain."

Buyer's remorse from the Slimes...they see their boy Corzine is in trouble, so they want him to withdraw and let Codey run now. After all, it worked for Toricelli/Lautenberg and as long as a Democrat wins, all is fair in NJ.
BINGO!
One day the newspaper delivery guy left the blue bag with the NYT in front of my house instead of the red bag with the NYPost.
I called and blasted the guy big time.
Told him I didn't want any of my neighbors to see that blue bag and think I would read the NYT.
Codey has two virtues: he's not Jim Mcgreevey and he's been, for the most part, ineffectual. The less I hear about or from those people, the better. Hell, I'd pay for that.
I'll vote Forrester but I suspect he'll raise taxes.

I expect if Corzine wins, the reward for Codey not running in a DEM primary is an appointment to the US Senate leaving Tom Kean jr. in a bad spot. New Jersey is disgusting especially after Lautenberg ran in 2002 that old piece of crap.
