Because we are a free enterprise - sorta capitalist society.
Fer instance. In the aforementioned motel biz, should my friend buy health insurance for his workers, he would have to rise his rates, or close his doors.
While I'm not a hospital finance specialist, I do know this: Medicare only pays 80 to 90% of the actual costs of a pt.'s stay in a hospital. The same with Oregon Basic Health Plan. The hospital and other providers are expected to pick up the difference with increased costs via: A. The other health plans, both for profit and nonprofit. These companies are fighting like heck at any increase, they don't know how long their customers can continue with 10 to 18% increases every year. That leaves B. The ER to carry the load. But illegals are heavy users of the Emergency Rooms (hey it's free - why not?) So the segment that can least afford it, the working poor without insurance has to carry the illegals and the Medicare patients.
Now if Dubya really gave a sh*t about his fellow Americans, he'd seal those borders and enforce the law. But he is a rich Texan (with all the arrogance that implies) so screw his fellow Americans and Viva la reconquista!!!!

So part of the immigrant problem we are experiencing is related to the inflated medical care expenses we provide in this country. Would this point of view also include the $100 medications that can be purchased in Canada for $20.00 ? How can we lay this blame on the immigrants, Mexican, vietnamese, chinese or any other ?
