I love it when leftist "eduk-a-shun" institutions get a dose of their own medicine.

Wow, unionize graduate students. Now that's an idea whose time has come. Inflate grades or we'll strike!

Yeah, they aren't 100% yet.

To be clear -- these are students from communist China.

Not students who happen to be ethnic Chinese.

Geez. why does allowing them to go to school here strike me as akin to handing our future executioners the guns to do the job. I always wonder how many of them are gathering intell all the time they are here.

Graduate students are essentially being used as slave labor by these universities, you know. Kind of like residents were being used as slaves by the hospitals before they cut their hours back to 80 per week. You had surgical residents putting in 110 hour weeks per week or so and getting paid $35,000 per year.

"Graduate student teachers and researchers filed a complaint Thursday accusing Yale University of a pattern of discrimination against Chinese students."

Are graduate students supposed to care about grades?

Chinese students do well in courses that do not require effective communication in English. I have witnessed this too many times. Chinese students are very poor writers and double standards often exist in situations involving indigenous students. I have given essay exams in graduate courses that require effective written communication. Many Chinese students have the writing skills of a grade-schooler. And when it comes to writing a thesis, the major professor ends up doing most of the writing. American students are clearly held to a much higher standard, but, in the end, both Chinese and American students will be granted the same PhD.

They shouldn't be crying and should consider themselves lucky. Those spots should have been going to qualified american students. Shame our top schools see fit to provide so much education (much of it on scholarship no less) to communists from a country that will be our biggest international rival for the next half century.
