ADL Lauds Conviction of White Supremacist Matthew Hale (by Prosecutor PATRICK FITZGERALD)

Chicago, IL, April 26, 2004 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) lauded today's conviction of Matthew Hale, leader of the former World Church of the Creator (now known as the Creativity Movement), on charges he solicited the murder of a federal judge and for obstruction of justice.

"We applaud United States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and F.B.I. Special Agent in Charge Thomas Kneir for having the diligence and courage to aggressively pursue the prosecution of this unrepentant racist, who has shown nothing but scorn for our nation's system of justice," said Richard S. Hirschhaut, ADL Chicago Regional Director. "We also congratulate Assistant United States Attorneys Victoria Peters and M. David Weisman for prosecuting this case with vigor and integrity. We are pleased that the jury saw through Hale's deceitful efforts to use his legal knowledge to evade responsibility for his actions."

Noting that the conviction "was five years in the making," Hirschhaut added that the verdict "stands as a measure of justice for the years of anguish suffered by so many innocent people who were victimized by Hale's exhortations to hate and violence. The souls of Ricky Byrdsong and Won-Joon Yoon may now rest in peace."

Having monitored the growth of the former World Church of the Creator for many years, ADL became increasingly concerned about the violent propensities of Hale and his group.

In 1999, one of Hale's followers, Benjamin Smith, went on a murderous shooting rampage in the Midwest, targeting Jews, African-Americans and Asian-Americans, leaving Byrdsong and Yoon dead and nine others wounded before killing himself.

Since the shootings, Hale has continued to praise Smith's deeds and has held him up as a model member of his group.

"The evidence presented at trial provided the jury a glimpse into the inner workings of an extremist group that advocated hate and bigotry in it purest form. The trial and conviction of Matt Hale sends an unmistakable message to those who propagate hate and violence in our community," said Hirschhaut.

I have yet to read of a frivolous prosecution by Fitzgerald. His history shows him to be a straight-arrow kind of guy, and as bright as he is tough.

It's shameful that some conservatives are starting to trash him because he might have discovered illegal acts by some Republicans. I expect liberal low-lifes like Clinton or Carville to slime a law-enforcer; conservatives should be above that kind of partisan sleaze.

a classic Clintonian move""""

LOL!!! I was bashing Clinton on FR before Clinton-bashing was cool. I was calling for impeachment years before Spector ever cracked a Scottish Law book. I was saying count the White House spoons years before Hillary made off with the best of them. Call me irresponsible, call me unreliable - - but DON't call me "Clintonian." Not if you don't want me to split a gut laughing!

You claim "some" Republicans are smearing Fitzgerald because "he might have discovered illegal acts by some Republicans".

Back up your claim or retract it

Fitzgerald is a solid guy, he prosecuted Rachman the wacco cleric from NJ involved in terrorist support.

He is currently working on trial of George Ryan, corrupt Republican Governor and Daley machine corruption involving hired trucks and water department.

If he indicts you he probably has the goods, the WH would be wise to focus on calling media people to the stand and Wilson and Plame, those are the weak spots.

Maybe Hale's not totally nutty: "...who has shown nothing but scorn for our nation's system of justice."

I don't see all this "slamming" of Fitzgerald that you're writing about. I think you may be setting up a straw man. I have seen some posts in which the author wonders aloud whether Fitzgerald, having been frustrated in his attempt to find an unlawful disclosure charge may be looking for factual discrepancies in testimony to conjure up a perjury charge. Since everyone remembers Ronald Reagan's famous memory lapses in the Iran-Contra trial, and Bill J. Clinton's "depends on what your defintion of 'is' is", most of us know that politicians are rarely prosecuted for factual misstatements unless they are clearly proved to be both willful and an element of another crime.

Patrick Fitzgerald is a political appointed prosecutor, not a law enforcer. Ronnie Earle is a prosecutor, which means that not all prosecutors are noble, "Elliot Ness" (as it said in one your previous posts) type individuals. Fitzgerald seems to have his own following in MSM circles, which may impress you, and may worry others.

What he has been doing is nothing but being a tool for the left, he hears Chris Matthews say that Fitzgerald is being smeared by the Republicans and he makes an idiotic statement like he did above. IMHO we have a few smart leftists plants on this Forum doing all they can to divide us, and we have tools for the left who want to believe anything they hear, because not every one of their wishes were fulfilled by this President.

I see the two as one and the same, and I see no reason to make any distinction between the two

Exactly what I've been thinking. All I've seen over the last few weeks is freepers "eating their own" believeing every unsubstantiated rumor to bash the administration or anyone who supports them.

Hey Ward Churchillbuff this is a witchhunt, nothing more."""

First you say there's no evidence of any preemptive sliming of Fitzgerald -- then you provide evidence by accusing him of a "witchhunt." Carville would applaud your bow-and-weave -- and slime -- tactics!!
