So what the Treat or Trick routine means? I guess if you do not make a sacrifice to the spirits they will do damage to you.

Uh, no. I think it means "give me some candy, or I'll vandalize something." There's no "spirits" involved. Just little children (who seldom vandalize) and older reprobates (who vandalize regardless).
