Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign has launched a 60-second radio ad featuring state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, touting Proposition 76, the Nov. 8 ballot measure that would change the state's budgeting rules. Below is a text of the ad and an analysis by Bee Deputy Capitol Bureau Chief Dan Smith.
Announcer: Unless you want higher taxes next year ... pay close attention to this message.
Tom McClintock: This is Sen. Tom McClintock for Prop. 76. 76 is the Live Within Your Means Act - to control state spending, balance the budget without new taxes and stop borrowing from our kids. California now spends more than $12,000 per family - more than any other time in our history. And what do we have to show for it? Not better roads or better schools, that's for sure. But the big government unions have a lot to show for it. ... The prison guards union just got a 37 percent pay hike ... public pension costs have ballooned 1,600 percent in just five years. Folks, our budget's completely out of control. The government unions that want to force us to pay higher taxes are fighting 76 with everything they've got. ... If they win, we all lose. They want to raise taxes. The governor wants to control spending. And it's all up to you. This is Tom McClintock asking you please to vote yes on Prop. 76.

BTTT! Go Tom McClintock!!
Anyway, GOOD WORK, Tom McClintock. You're a hero.
Maybe, just maybe, there is some hope to free California from the death-grip of the liberal socialist legislature -- tax and spend California into oblivion is their ongoing theme. California's own Tammany Hall....

Sorry to hear that, a lot of folks felt the same ,, and bought it hook line and sinker...
We are now much deeper in debt and have a more entrenched green and moderate govenrment as a result, that not even Tom , if he does eventually hold the Gub' seat, may be unable to dop much about, imo.
Oh well. That's what happens these days in politics in California.
Tom FoR Lt. Gub in '06.
do=dop
It is so exhilarating to hear someone come out and speak the truth about the unions instead of giving them a free pass.
Tom did a great radio ad smacking the union thugs in that prop. I heard it Tuesday.
Kudos to Tom for both ads.
My wife loves the tv ad where the Senior Lady smacks the left wing politicians as she goes back down her side walk to her home.
I think the CAGOP meant to say:
"to stop borrowing from our kids after we utilize the estimated $5B in additional borrowing that Prop 76 authorizes. We know that we promised to stop borrowing more money after Prop 57 was passed but we just couldn't bring ourselves to cut spending and the Prop 57 funds weren't enough to increase spending for one more year."
