Bad day? Considering that 90% of all species are now extinct, it's fair to conclude that the designer had a bad billion years.

Your source for that claim that 90% of all species are now extinct. Even if true, how did it happen? Maybe some sort of flood?

If the flood killed 90% of all species, then the Bible is wrong. The Bible says that Noah was ordered to take two of each kind of animal aboard the ark, not that he was to choose 10% of the living creatures and save 2 of each of them.
