A NASA satellite image shows tributaries and streams of the Yukon Delta in western Alaska. The Senate Energy Committee voted on Wednesday to open Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling as part of a broad budget bill to fund the federal government. If Bush gets ANWR opened up, his legacy will live long!!
Hope Miers won't rule it unconstitutional though! :-)

It is my understanding that REALISTIC environmentalists have said the small area slated for drilling wouldn't permanently harm wildlife. I love animals, and heck, polar bear cubs are darn cute. But we need to find as much domestic oil as we can. Yes, conservation of oil is important. But it can't come close to solving all our problems. The more oil we produce the weaker OPEC's stranglehold becomes.
Here's hoping psuedo-scientific Dems don't try to stop sensible policy.

Environmental groups and many Democrats oppose drilling, saying that instead of threatening the habitat of wildlife in ANWR, lawmakers should look at ways to cut oil consumption with more fuel-efficient vehicle standards.
Sorry moonbats, but there is absolutely NO WAY to conserve our way to energy independence, and I am personally unwilling to ride a bike or walk 27 miles each way to work and back. Nor am I willing to return to a 19th century agrarian economy.

Never reported in any article on ANWAR and drilling is that when congress created ANWAR they specifically set aside this area FOR DRILLING!
